Pit Stops: When the race requires us to shift gears and pause.
Within our fast-paced environments there is a biblical invitation to slow down, rest, and enjoy God’s faithfulness. This session will explore historical Christian practices of pausing to rest and pray. Further, we will examine methods of incorporating these practices into our schools, and daily lives as educators.
The race of the Christian life is a journey— one with many opportunities to pause along the way. On this pilgrimage God invites us to:Stand at the crossroads and look;ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it,and you will find rest for your souls.

Moving the Needle on Recruitment and Retention
There is a ZipRecruiter commercial that has the tagline, “Like Finding the Needle in a Haystack.” Ever feel that way about hiring? Let’s face it, hiring quality staff for our schools was tough before inflation and the Great Resignation following the Covid years. It is even tougher now. Pay has increased across the board and job vacancies have been plentiful. It does indeed feel like searching for the needle in the haystack. And while there is no magic wand we plan to propose, we do believe schools can move the needle with some smart tools, processes and actions on both the hiring and retention fronts. We know you have the basics covered so we won’t take the time to go there. We will instead bore deeply into the key essentials that will keep our schools well-staffed.

A Tale of Three Cities: Case Studies& Lessons Learned in Project Management
During this session, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from three different administrators about their experiences with project management, citing specific examples from their schools and the lessons their teams learned along the way. As school leaders, we collectively strive to maintain both operational excellence and pursue strategic goals that advance our missions. Focusing on the latter, how do we set the right agenda? How do we determine the right stakeholders to get involved? What role should collaboration and feedback play, and how might that vary depending on the nature of the project? How do we manage change, adapt to new challenges as they arise, and ultimately measure our success? These questions and more will be considered in a two-part session, including the presentation of case studies from three CESA schools and culminating in a panel discussion with an opportunity for Q&A with the audience. In the spirit of “Accelerate,” we will also consider how to strike a balance between timeliness and efficiency in achieving strategic goals while also effectively investing the community in those projects to ensure their effectiveness and longevity.

Sustainable School Leadership
In a time in which school leaders face higher expectations, quicker burnout, and shorter tenures, how do we intentionally elevate our “leadership stamina” to stay the course for the long term? How do we find joy in our work and make leadership look more appealing to the next generation of leaders? How do we develop emerging leaders for the challenges of leadership so when positions are open, we have a deep candidate pool? The speaker will share observations and experiences to outline the issues at hand and share his failures and successes in seeking to build his own leadership stamina, providing attendees with practical ideas for fostering sustainable leadership.

Develop Your Athletes by Developing Your Coaches
This session aims to stimulate thought as it pertains to coach development. Coaches have the opportunity to change lives as they invest in our students and so it is vital that they are equipped to contribute to the fulfillment of the school’s mission. Far too often we leave this to chance. During this presentation and discussion-based session, we will explore three areas of opportunity. First, we will examine practical ways to equip coaches to be more intentional about spiritual formation within their programs. From there we will challenge the status quo as we look at evidence based practices in coaching that will assist in coaching the modern athlete. Finally, we will explore the model of coach as the “CEO” of their program.

Celebrating Every Student: A Whole-School Approach to Neurodiversity in Christian Education
How can you be a student of your students? How can you leverage your existing faculty members to serve your student population? How can you be prepared to receive and grow the students God brings to your Christian school? Every student is uniquely created in the image of God, and our Christian schools have a sacred opportunity to celebrate and support the diverse ways they learn and thrive. This session will explore how schools can leverage their entire community—students, teachers, and parents—to provide differentiated instruction, learning support, and enrichment. Through guided, small group discussions and an interview-style presentation, we will highlight practical strategies, including: differentiation in the classroom, tiered learning support, social-emotional learning, gifted education, spiritual formation, parent workshops, and community partnerships. By embracing neurodiversity as a God-given aspect of His creation, we not only serve students more effectively but also reflect His Kingdom more fully. This session will inspire and equip school leaders to cultivate a learning environment where every student, as an image bearer of God, is celebrated.

Upstream Harkness
This will be a panel discussion led by Dr. Peterson with members of the senior staff team at Regents School of Austin. Last year at the CESA Symposium, I was inspired to develop a new way of thinking about leadership development at the highest level from Dan Heath talking about upstream thinking. Over the past year, as part of our senior staff meeting agendas, we have included “upstream harkness” discussions. Our school uses Harkness as a method for our student to learn listening and effective speech in our classes. Each week, a senior staff team member selects an upstream harkness prompt for our team to spend 10–15 minutes discussing. This exercise has helped us learn about each other, created unity, and helped our crisis leadership competencies.

Going Upstream: Solve Your Problems at the Source
Are you tired of putting out the fires of human behavior? Do you wish the public perception of your school was different? It is time to create the culture you want or continue to deal with the one you have. It’s time to go upstream and solve these problems at the source for better outcomes downstream.
Athletic Directors from Grand Rapids Christian (MI) and Cuyahoga Valley Christian (OH) will share how small but strategic adjustments to your athletic leadership system can strengthen programs, improve public perception, and advance your Christian mission. By engaging student and community voices while developing more effective coaches, schools can reduce turnover, minimize parent conflicts, and use data to enhance leadership—while putting Christ on display more effectively.
This session explores how giving students and parents a structured voice builds unified culture across athletics and the school. Presenters will share practical tools for developing coaches—often the most influential yet least trained leaders in our school systems.
Each school will receive free tools and a complimentary trial of a coaching leadership development platform.

Respectful > safe: An invitation to joy through struggle
Parents want what is best for their children. They think they want a rigorous, challenging curriculum. But they also want their children to get straight As, make all-state, and gain admission to an elite college of their choice.
