Valor Christian High School is expanding its development office by adding a new role for a Director of Development. A primary focus of this role will be on creating a stronger culture of generosity within the community while cultivating strategic relationships with key stakeholders. This position must skillfully lead and direct all development efforts while effectively and efficiently overseeing the advancement team to achieve the school’s short-term and long-term objectives.


Valor Christian High School is seeking to expand its team by creating a new opportunity for a Director of Development. A primary focus of this role will be on creating a stronger culture of giving within the community while maintaining strategic relationships with the school’s key stakeholders. This position must skillfully lead and direct all advancement efforts while effectively and efficiently managing the team to achieve the school’s stated objectives. Reporting directly to the Head of School, this position will also work in close collaboration with the Board’s Advancement Committee and the Executive Leadership team, serving as a resource in planning and cultivating prospects and developing more meaningful and deeper relationships with existing donors.

You must have exceptional people skills and a strategic ability for matching individual interests to the school’s funding priorities. Think relatability plus strategy, and you’ll have a successful combination to contribute to a growing and flourishing advancement program. To accomplish these objectives, your spoken and written communication must be clear and compelling.


This newly created role comes with the opportunity to further expand the school’s advancement program. Plans to launch a significant capital campaign in the near future and grow endowment support as an ongoing fundraising endeavor are also important goals of the school.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or a related field
  • 4+ years of fundraising experience with increasing professional responsibilities and demonstrated success in meeting targets of $1M+ in annual giving and $20M+ in capital and/or endowment giving
  • 2+ years of experience and high familiarity with best practices using an industry-standard donor database

Skills and Software

  • Exceptional understanding of private philanthropy and major gifts fundraising
  • High integrity—truthfulness, meeting commitments, keeping confidences
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to establish, build and maintain effective relationships
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written
  • Self-motivated ability to work with limited supervision, willing to handle concurrent tasks and make appropriate judgments and decisions
  • Proficiency with Mac computers, Microsoft Office, Google Suite (Mail, Docs, Drive, Calendar), donor database systems
  • Quick ability to learn new software and systems
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed


  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification, or equivalent, in hand or underway, preferred

PAY RANGE: $125,000 – $150,000
