Title: ARTS – Orchestra Director – Full time
Reports To: Director of Arts

Job Overview: Mount Paran Christian School seeks an inspiring music educator to teach
strings technique and performance to students in grades 5 through 12;
nurture students in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of
music through individual practice and group collaboration; cooperate with
peer arts faculty of the school in the improvement of the overall arts
program; partner with academic instructional faculty across school
divisions and subject areas to foster interdisciplinary teaching and
learning; and, perform all duties in alignment with the mission and core
values of the school.
Qualifications: Minimum BA in Music or Music Education; current professional
certification in K-12 Music and record of successful experience in K-12
strings education. Independent Christian/Parochial school instruction
experience preferred. Strong record of success in K-12 strings education
may be considered as sufficient for certification requirement. Ability to
work with musicians at all skill levels. String performance skills. Candidate
must demonstrate evidence of the skills, aptitudes, and abilities necessary
to perform each duty proficiently.
Physical Requirements:
Lifting and transporting boxes not exceeding 20 pounds; ability to stand
for long periods of time while instructing; hearing abilities necessary for
music instruction; ability to transport students from one area of a
building/campus to another
Responsibilities: The Orchestra Director is responsible for the following:
• Ministering to students compassionately and sincerely so they may
continue to grow in their faith.
• Accepting the work at Mount Paran Christian School as a personal
calling and identifying themselves as ministers of the gospel of Jesus
Christ.
• Teaching music at an appropriate instructional level and ensuring
each student’s progress by as much individualization as possible.
• Presenting concerts and programs as dictated by the instructional
needs of the students combined with the expectations of the school
master calendar.
• Establishing a positive classroom climate and effectively managing
music instruction within that environment.
• Effectively planning for music instruction using knowledge of subject
matter as well as knowledge of the physical, emotional, intellectual,
and spiritual growth process of students.

• Selecting music and music materials which are appropriate for
teaching and performance and which will contribute to the
development of the student’s understanding and appreciation of
music.
• Providing content development that is both teacher-focused and
student focused
• Promoting student engagement in order to assess and encourage
progress
• Supporting and strengthening the learning capabilities of each student
• Managing and maintaining a healthy learning environment
• Monitoring and management of students’ behavior, including
appropriate enforcement of student behavior rules
• Following professional practices consistent with school policies in
working with students, students’ records, parents, and colleagues
• Maintaining a professional demeanor in dealings with parents and
students
• Scheduling conferences according to school policies
• Conducting assigned classes at scheduled times
• Providing adequate information, plans, and materials for substitute
teachers
• Maintaining accurate, complete, and appropriate records and files
• Attending and participating in faculty meetings and other assigned
meetings and activities according to school policy
• Demonstrating accurate, up-to-date knowledge of content
• Developing, refining, and implementing curriculum
• Maintaining lesson plans as required by school policy
• Assigning reasonable tasks and homework for students
• Assuming responsibility for supervision of students in out-of-class
settings, such as field trips/off-campus performances
• Showing support and high esteem for MPCS
• Complying with conditions as stated in employee contract and
handbook
• Modeling mission-appropriate behavior in speech and actions in the
workplace and in life
• Any other duties as assigned
