Lipscomb Academy is seeking an innovative educator for the position of Coordinator of iWonder, a Kindergarten through grade 5 program focused on student-centered learning experiences. This dynamic, forward-thinking professional would join an outstanding Lower School team.

iWonder seeks to lead a culture of innovation through innovative learning methods for faculty, staff, and students at Lipscomb Academy. The iWonder student experience focuses on learning via exploration and discovery. With the help of technology and real-life experiences, iWonder is driven by a maker mindset and fully values the learning process. It emphasizes student empowerment to wonder, think critically, invent, create, and solve problems in an innovative and collaborative environment.

As a Lipscomb Academy Lower School team member, this individual will model what it means to be inquisitive, flexible, and creative. This individual will strategically partner with classroom teachers and other faculty/staff to execute lessons focused on design thinking, hands-on learning, and project design, inquiry, and wonder.

This individual will empower students to ask questions, challenge the norm, and design a better world. We see an energizing facilitator with a background in inquiry-based learning, design thinking, and the maker movement who will work closely with the Middle and Upper School teams to build strong student experiences.

This individual will:

Foster an environment of intentional collaboration among all stakeholders- students, faculty, staff, and families.
Empower Lower School students to become designers of their own learning and lead innovators in the community.
Serve as an instructional coach while partnering with classroom teachers to help them discover how the use of the innovation lab can enhance their curriculum, provide opportunities for students to engage in inquiry and showcase their work, and creatively solve real-world problems.
Facilitate a research and design lab for bold, new ideas for doing school differently.
Engage with complex, transdisciplinary problems and provide students with opportunities to follow their passions, interests, and curiosities.
Facilitate design thinking experiences and help advance inquiry-based learning.
Contribute to professional learning training opportunities for Lower School faculty in small and whole-group settings.
Work with the classroom teacher to create differentiated opportunities to match the needs of students in the classroom.
Proactively search out and participate in professional growth opportunities.
Demonstrate a high level of competency in implementing the ISTE Standards for Students (Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator).
Organize, manage, and maintain iWonder tools and equipment, and budget for ordering supplies.
Schedule and oversee iWonder parent volunteers and/or student interns
Lead/advise clubs appropriately connected with makerspace activities, such as a maker or coding club.
Offer a minimum of two weeks of summer camp.

Requirements:

Masters degree preferred (Instructional Technology or equivalent)
Tennessee Teaching Certification, K-5
3+ years of teaching experience preferred
Proficiency with computing, both hardware, and software (iPads, MacBooks, Chromebooks, PC’s, and peripherals)
Proficiency with maker, design, and engineering-related technological tools and platforms
Experience with coding, 3D modeling, robotics, circuitry and programming required. Digital media, engineering, design, large format printing, and fabrication preferred.
Have knowledge or demonstrable willingness to create using diverse materials like wood, cardboard, styrofoam, paper mache, metal, fabric, etc.
Familiarity with or willingness to learn tech software
Life experience in maker, design, and engineering preferred, either through employment or personal projects
Superior organizational skills
Passion for learning and problem-solving
