Upper School Principal

The Upper School Principal is responsible for creating a positive, safe, Christ-centered Upper School climate and culture consistent with the school’s educational philosophy, in which students meet the grades 7-12 curricular learning standards and achieve, in developmentally appropriate ways, the schoolwide learning outcomes as articulated in the JCS Mission Statement and Graduate Profile. The Upper School Principal will report directly to the Chief Academic Officer, Susan Rivera, work in tandem with school leadership and will be an integral part of the administrative team.

Close Working Relationships

President, Chief Academic Officer, Lower and East Campus Principals, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Advancement Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and Director of Guidance.

Work Commitment

Reporting directly to the Chief Academic Officer, full time managerial position with a three-year commitment. This position is a member of the leadership team. Some of the duties of the position include: Performance standards

Instructional Leadership: Fosters the success of all students by facilitating the development, communication, implementation, and evaluation of a shared vision of teaching and learning that leads to students’ holistic formation and to overall school improvement

School Climate: Fosters the success of all students by developing, advocating, and sustaining a Christ-centered, academically rigorous, positive, and safe school climate for all stakeholders. This position will assist in recruiting, screening and recommending mission appropriate instructional staff for appointment by the President

Student Formation: Fosters the success of all students through effectively nurturing student growth and flourishing in all aspects of life – mind, body and spirit – caring for the well-being of the whole child and helping them achieve their full potential in Christ

Teacher Development: Fosters the success of all students through engaging in effective teacher development, assisting with selection and induction, and by supporting, evaluating, and retaining quality instructional and support personnel, employing quality performance measurement tools linked to ongoing professional development and faculty retention

Organizational Management: Fosters the success of all students by supporting, managing, and overseeing the Upper School’s organization, operation, and use of resources. Working with the Chief Academic Officer to assure compliance with accreditation standards

Communication and Community Relations: Fosters the success of all students by communicating and collaborating effectively with stakeholders

Professionalism: Fosters the success of all students by exemplifying a passionate commitment to following Christ, demonstrating professional standards and ethics, engaging in continuous professional development, and contributing to the profession

Student Academic Progress: The Upper School Principal’s leadership results in acceptable, measurable student academic progress according to established standards, guided by Graduate Profile, that ensures preparedness for higher education in the United States, and beyond.

*Excellent communicator, both orally and in writing

*Creative problem solver and conceptual thinker with strong future orientation
